About us

Who Are We?

The Llanelli Railway Goods Shed Trust is a volunteer-group of people committed to preserving Llanelli's industrial heritage. Since 2011, we have been creating the plans to restore the derelict Railway Goods Shed back into use. Fast forward to 2022, Phase 1 of the project has been completed successfully. The Phase 1 restoration of a two-story building at the western end of the shed into community-based flexible office, teaching and meeting space was officially opened by the First Minister Mark Drakeford in October 2022.

What is the Goods Shed?

The Goods Shed is a Grade II* listed building, designed in the style of Isambard Kingdom Brunel. The Goods Shed once played a crucial role in the development of Llanelli as a major industrial centre. After it ceased operation in 1966, it became derelict. Although, it remained structurally sound and is one of the few remaining buildings of its kind.

Our project

Our overall vision is to transform the shed into a hub for cultural, heritage, community and enterprise activities. We want to create a dynamic, welcoming space where our diverse community can come to use the space however they may need as well as being able to explore Llanelli's heritage. We are grateful to our funders for providing us with the finances to complete Phase 1 of the project, and are sourcing funding for Phase 2.

Our Community

The Goods Shed is situated in Llanelli's Tyisha ward, which has become one of the most deprived wards in Wales. We work with the local authority, community groups and members of the public in order to create plans for the restoration of the Goods Shed which will benefit the local community. Tyisha is a great place to live and we believe that our project will act as a catalyst for the regeneration of this largely deprived area, as well as serving the wider Llanelli communities.
